After spending two weeks galavanting around Europe (London, Paris & Rome), I had a bad case of the post-vacation blues. Worse than ever before! Can you blame me? I decided the best cure for the post-vacation blues was re-discovering what I love about the place I call home: Oklahoma City!

"a vacation spent at home involving
day trips and local attractions"
Part of what I love about traveling is filling my days with exciting activities and photo-ops...believe it or not, we had never visited any of the tourist attractions in our own town! We decided it was due-time we toured our own city like we do others, so we booked a staycation. I'll be sharing details on where we stayed and where we ate soon, but for now, lets talk about what we did. It was so fun getting to #SeeOKC from a different perspective, all with my favorite travel companion!
To kick off our staycation on Friday night, we popped in to 405 Yoga in Midtown. We love to stay active while traveling (so that we can eat more, obviously), and their Rocket Yoga class was the perfect amount of activity. It was upbeat and fun with just the right amount of heat - not your typical relaxing yoga class, which was fine by me! The studio is located right next to several hot-spot restaurants and is super cute. Meredith, the teacher, was so welcoming and friendly - can everyone please be this nice?!! The world would be a better place, if so!

Saturday morning we headed to Riversport OKC. I often get asked, "What is there to do in Oklahoma City for fun?" - no one expects the answer to be white water rafting! Though the rapids (and the 7-mile Oklahoma River) are manmade, they rival II-IV level real life rafting and boast the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic rowing, kayaking and canoeing team training sites. OKC is one of the few places in the country that offers urban rafting - how cool is that?! Riversport OKC also offers paddle boarding, kayaking (flat and white water), ropes courses, slides, a zip-line and more.
After a very intimidating worst-case-scenario safety lesson, we got into our raft and paddled toward the conveyor belt that took us to the top of the rapids. I was slightly terrified and I reeeeally didn't want to fall in, but soon the adrenaline kicked in and I had a blast! Our guide was so funny and helped make the experience unique. Our raft team was able to go through the course three times without tipping over - praise the Good Lord Almighty! Heads up, though, you get completely and totally drenched so wear appropriate shoes and clothing and bring a change of clothes. I went white water rafting in Oregon once and I'd definitely say OKC's version is just as intense and exciting.

Before our staycation came to an end on Sunday, we meandered through the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City. The gardens as a whole encompass a 15-acre natural landscape in the heart of downtown. Visitors will find a dog-park, movies on the lawn, an ice-skating rink during the holidays, a children's splash pad and playground, food trucks, concerts, weddings and much, much more. It is such a beautiful urban oasis.
In the middle of the gardens, the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory offers visitors a chance to see 750 different varieties of plants ranging from tropical beauties to desert gems. The waterfalls and skybridge with aerial views of the jungle only add to the beauty. I had some major succulent envy - I can barely keep my succulents alive, let alone have them grow and blossom! Keep in mind, the conservatory is similar to a green house, so it is very warm inside. I got pretty hot wearing my bomber jacket - I was glad I had an acceptable t-shirt on underneath!

After a whirlwind of fun in OKC, my post-vacation blues were officially cured. We seriously live in the best city - I've always said it was the perfect combination of big city vibes and small town feels and I still hold true to that statement. There is no place I'd rather call home! If you're looking for the perfect couple's getaway weekend, look no further than OKC.
More staycation details and an official Guide to OKC coming your way soon. Until then, happy three-day-weekend!
This post is part of a partnership with Visit OKC. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

How Fun! I need to try out the water sports place! I've never been rafting before. It looks like a blast!
It was such a fun experience! Definitely do it on a warmer day, though ;)
This sounded amazing! I want to do a staycation with the hubby sometime.
