Happy New Year's Eve! 2018 came and went in a flash. For the last seven years I've written a year in review post......it is almost a requirement at this point! My first ever blog post was a New Year's one, believe it or not. I always love looking back and reflecting on what my years held, both as I write and as I look back years down the road. It is so fun to see how I've changed and grown with each passing year.
2018 can be called the year of travel - we went on [almost] one trip per month and I will cherish those memories forever. As all years do, it had some lows (i.e. surgery and home repairs) but plenty of highs, as well! Let's choose to remember the good!
I turned 28 (yes that means I'm about to enter my last year in my twenties....yikes). I went to physical therapy (a lot) and recovered from a shoulder surgery. I served as a board member on my neighborhood's historical preservation board. Kids ate Tide pods. I went to LA. I strutted my stuff on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I shopped on Rodeo Drive. I tried poke bowls and loved them. I walked down the boardwalk at Venice Beach and watched the sunset in Santa Monica. Plastic straws got the boot. I hiked Mount Sanitas in Boulder, Colorado, and devoured Little Man Ice Cream as my reward. I climbed the stairs at Red Rocks Amphitheater and sipped tons of local brews all over Denver. I cheered Cole on as he played in a basketball league. I became a fitness instructor and started teaching a PHIT class at Beyond Studios. I upped my level of coffee snobbery. I spent a weekend eating my way through New Orleans. I had fried alligator, turtle soup, beignets, a hurricane, a grenade, gumbo, po boys and more. I toured an old plantation and visited haunted homes in the French Quarter. I had a gallbladder attack in the middle of NOLA. I rode a bike bar for a friend's bachelorette party. I visited Texas wine country. I started doing pilates. I hiked in the Wichita mountains of Oklahoma. I went to a Thunder playoff game. Two of my favorite people got married (hi Ryan and Megan)! I went to a Kentucky Derby watch party and lost a $1 bet. I tried to start running (it didn't last). I drank mimosas while other people ran the OKC Marathon. I watched the Royal Wedding. My blog/Instagram started snowballing and I got the opportunity to work with some really great brands. C and I took a quick "anniversary" trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I ate some of the best pancakes I've ever had (and I've had a lot of pancakes). I hiked Tent Rocks and felt like a character in a Star Wars movie. I modeled as a bride for a photoshoot. I said goodbye to my first car and hello to a 4 Runner! I became an aunt for the first time. Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade passed sadly and suddenly. I tagged along to Nashville when C went to a work conference. I shopped at Draper James and had the best cocktails of my life in a legit speakeasy. We redid our sunroom with help from my dad. I got promoted and got a new office with a window! I had my gallbladder surgically removed. Hopdoddy opened an OKC location and invited me to the soft opening - YUM. I road tripped to Dallas with my best blogger babes to shop the N-Sale. I tried a barre class. I took an OKC bike and brewery tour. I hosted a shopping night + candle launch party at Kendra Scott. I started using essential oils! I upgraded to an iPhone X. I started getting lash extensions. I lost some old friendships but gained some new ones I am more thankful for with each passing day. I went to New York Fashion Week as an influencer! I met the top ladies at Kate Spade. I had a Serena Van Der Woodsen moment when I saw a real life fashion show. I hit 10,000 followers on Instagram. I was featured in a magazine for BC Clark. I headed west to Oregon to spend a week with family. I saw Multnomah Falls, drank all the good beers, drove around Crater Lake, hiked Misery Ridge at Smith Rock and walked through a mile long lava tube. Oklahoma started selling wine in grocery stores! I got invited to the suites for several OSU football games. I got several laser treatments on my face to help with dark spots. I worked with my first hotel on a blog post and got to visit Vermont in the fall. I saw the house my granddad built my hand with stones from a creek nearby and visited the town my mom grew up in. I devoured a maple creamee and finally got to taste a real apple cider donut! I finally started back at crossfit, post surgery(-ies) and am feeling really good about it. I dressed up as Regina George for Halloween. I was awarded the Credit Union Rising Star award at a regional work conference. I hit Starbucks Gold level for the second year in a row and became a Sephora VIB member. I spent Thanksgiving in Arkansas with my family. We said goodbye to George H.W. Bush. I went to New York City at Christmas and checked a bunch of things off my bucket list! Ice skating in the Wollman Rink, seeing the 5th Avenue lights and the Rockefeller tree, watching the Rockette's Christmas Spectacular, drinking a Christmas cocktail at Rolf's.....check! I got my first spray tan (and I'm addicted). I got a new mattress courtesy of Happsy...how adult of me. A Christmas PJ photo of me went viral (even though they didn't have my permission to use it). I spent my first Christmas away from my parents, but luckily my in-laws are the best ever and made it wonderful. Instagram gave everyone a mini-heart attack. My New Years Eve will be spent with a second year tradition of pizza with friends and wine on the couch. Here's to 2019 and whatever it may hold!
A few intentions for 2019..... I'm currently laughing at last year's because I didn't work very hard on some of them hahaha. That post-lunch caffeine addiction is still going strroonnnngggg and don't even get me started on the amount of outfits in my closet that have not been repurposed.
- Finish the remaining items on my 30 Before 30 list
- Get my crossfit body back, STAT.
- Take a routine break from different beauty expenses (i.e. let my nails "breath" and get healthy for a few months before getting dip polish again and other similar things throughout the year)
- Learn to say "no" when I'm feeling overwhelmed
- Stay organized for sponsored posts, collabs, work, etc.
- Spend five minutes + a day with DuoLingo in preparation for some upcoming trips across the pond!
What are your goals/intentions/resolutions? I'd love to hear and help cheer you on throughout they year! As always, thanks so much for reading and for supporting me and this blog. It is such a dream to have a little corner of the internet to myself and have people care about my life, my journey and my opinions along the way. I cherish each and every one of you guys! Cheers to the new year, ya'll!
