Happy [almost] Memorial Day Weekend! Memorial Day marks the start of summer and to me, summer means iced tea! In preparation for the long weekend, I created a tasty three-ingredient cocktail slush recipe using Red Diamond Ready-to-Drink Iced Tea that I’ve named the “Okie Sweet Tea Slush,” aka an adult Arnold Palmer slushie. Whatever your weekend holds, this drink would be the perfect addition…it’s refreshing, simple and delicious, plus it would be easy to make a kid-friendly version - just omit the alcohol!
While grocery shopping, I always grab a gallon of Red Diamond Ready-to-Drink Iced Tea to keep on hand; it is made with simple, real ingredients and it always hits the spot. My go-to afternoon pick-me-up is their Sugar-Free Sweet Tea because it tastes great while being guilt free and zero calorie since it is sweetened with Splenda. Red Diamond also offers Ready-to-Drink gallons of unsweet tea and regular sweet tea - both are equally as delicious. They’d all pair perfectly with a Memorial Day backyard BBQ, whether enjoyed straight from the gallon or made into an Okie Sweet Tea Slush!
Okie Sweet Tea Slush
Ingredients:
- Red Diamond Ready-to-Drink Iced Tea - I used the Sugar-Free Sweet Tea to keep it low cal
- Lemonade - I used a 15 calorie diet lemonade to keep it low cal
- Vodka - to taste
- Fresh Mint - optional
- Lemon Slices - for garnish
Directions:
Mix equal parts iced tea and lemonade and freeze in an ice cube tray overnight or until solid. Using a blender, blend tea/lemonade ice cubes with vodka (can add fresh mint, if desired). Do a taste test and add extra [liquid] tea, lemonade or vodka as needed to reach desired consistency and taste. Pour into glass and garnish with fresh mint and a lemon slice. Enjoy and watch out for brain freezes!
Memorial Day Weekend will look a little different for me this year thanks to the coronavirus….no lake trip, no pool party, and no real “day off” since I’m already working remotely (it’s hard to distinguish work days from weekends these days)….but that’s ok! It is my hope that since the holiday is less of a “celebration” this year that people will remember what Memorial Day is really for - to honor and mourn those who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and protecting our country.
I plan to complete the Murph Hero WOD as my way of honoring the fallen: 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, 1-mile run. After Murph, C and I will be spending the day social distancing and enjoying our backyard while sipping on Okie Sweet Tea Slushies. During this quarantine, we have put SO much work into our little patio project. We are so proud of how it turned out and how far it has come since we moved into the White House on the Prairie! I even used fresh mint from our new herb garden to make my Okie Sweet Tea Slush. What a proud plant mom moment. I’m sure there will be some backyard BBQ action going on this weekend, as well…and nothing pairs with an all-American burger quite like Red Diamond Iced Tea! Be sure to grab a gallon while grocery shopping for your Memorial Day cookout ingredients - you can find Red Diamond products in a store near you by clicking here. Since they are made with the freshest ingredients, they’ll be waiting for you in the refrigerated section.
I’d love to hear what your three-day weekend plans are! If you try the Okie Sweet Tea Slush recipe, please let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Stay safe and healthy, friends. Thanks so much for reading. Cheers!
